This is how the political leaders of Ireland tried to convince their voters to support the Lisbon Treaty in 2008. They failed, but they came out of the vote with their dignity intact and were able to push for passing the Treaty the next year, convincing voters that the necessary assurances had been made by the EU to allay Irish fears over loss of sovereignty and various other issues.

The programme series “My truth” by Soula Hatzikiriakou constitutes a qualitative leap forward for Cybc. For the first time there is such an extended reference and such an open condemnation in g/c television of the crimes committed by g/c nationalist paramilitaries in the period 1963-1974 against t/c civilians. Truths that were known but denied and [...]
I have stopped believing that reunification can be achieved through negotiations of the two sides’ leaders. It has been tried enough times in the past 50 years to convince us that it cannot succeed. The elected leaders are inevitably products of the existing political systems of the two sides and always have and always will [...]

William Ralph Inge famously said «A nation is a society that nourishes a common delusion about its ancestry and shares a common hatred for its neighbors.» There’s no need even to argue that nationalism is the root of Cyprus’ division. What was for some people the ideals of freedom and self-determination in a post-colonial wolrd [...]
January 2010 has been set as the month of intensive negotiations. The negotiation process is gradually coming into a crucial phase. It has been the expectation that by now the process would have been at a more advanced stage but given the state of affairs it is now time for the Civil Movement on both [...]
