Dear Gordios,I do not see a solution in the near future. But if it comes,it will be a happy surprise for me. But the problem will be its proper implementation. Unless Turkey turns into a democratic state,it will not be helpful for us. The almost 90 years of “Kemalist” Turkish State is at the moment in a transition period. One Turkish sociologist explained this in this way:The Imam won over the Kemalist teacher in Turkey. The struggle between the Kemalist Turkish Army and the representatives of the newly emerged Anatolian Bourgeosie is not settled yet. Turkey is being restructured by the new forces of change. The AKP (Mr.Erdogan’s Party) got the mission from the USA to make these changes. But they are timid to change the constitution, prepared by the fascist junta of 1980. Because of their religious attitudes, sometimes the AKP or its members get into conflict with the Kemalist Judges. Especially the Kemalist Army sees itself as the founder and the guardian of the Turkish State and whenever they made a new constitution, the Army kept its privileged status that the Ministry of Defence and the Parliament still have nothing to say for the budget and the expenditure of the Army. The Turkish and the Greek branches of the Super-NATO (through their instruments in Cyprus) are responsible for the creation of the Cyprus problem. I think the Greek branch is not so active anymore, but the Turkish branch is at the moment in a big trouble with the Ergenekon Case. Some sections that committed thousands of murders in the Kurdish provinces of Turkey and prepared coup plans against the legal governments are before the Courts. (Three coup plans were outlined during the days of Annan Plan!) Shall the courts be able to punish all the responsible persons, including some generals? The attorneys should also investigate fully the Kurdish problem up to the Cyprus problem. Both problems have a lot to do with the Army and the deep state. As for the BBF,I accept the real federalism as defined in the international law, rather than the Turkish interpretation, which envisages confederalism and ethnically cleansed T/C state. The federal constitution should be based on citizenship, instead of ethnic identities. I also have a lot of concerns, unless we come together and talk on these matters without limitation of 800 words! But I am happy to discuss with you, even through internet…

Dear Ahmet,
The signs of a coming solution are here, may people (including me) believe that many things are already agreed between the communities representatives in the long lasting talks, and they are not announcing their agreements before preparing people to accept those aspects of the solution,in the same context is the support for Talat against Eroglou from everybody, the BBF leaflet by RoC. and the impressive effort from all pro BBF powers convince people for the benefits of this solution,of course I may be mistaken..
You said “But the problem will be its proper implementation. Unless Turkey turns into a democratic state..”,I agree with you,but I believe that Mr. Erdogan is total winner in this power game, and if he is,things will be better,he seems to be a really charismatic and clever leader and he will reform Turkey if he succeeds with his fight with Kemalists. Implementation of the solution is one of greatest fears in GC community and this as revealed was a true fear after the events you have mentioned.
I hope that you are right to say that Turkey’s influence (Army’s –Deep State) over Cyprus is decreasing due to that events.
What you said:“As for the BBF,I accept the real federalism as defined in the international law, rather than the Turkish interpretation, which envisages confederalism and ethnically cleansed T/C state. The federal constitution should be based on citizenship, instead of ethnic identities”
Is one of the MOST important aspects of the solution! (assuming majority assurances for the Bi communal Part of BBF,so it could be acceptable basis),this is what I believe it could bring people together again, make people work together and build our lives as friends and have common future. I cannot understand why many the people that want re unification and they do not see that (almost)ethnic clean territories will never reunify Cyprus.
