An event making history:Reunification now!

On Tuesday 26.1.2010,the coldest night of the year,we had an excellent event with over 150 people. Despite the short time we had to put it together and the communication difficulties we had a well attended event that in the words of Takis Hadjidemetriou was an event making history. Making History because we are a bi-communal movement broad enough to be able to express the common will not of each community separately but the common will as Cypriots. Şener Elcil noted the urgency for solution as the great challenge of our time. We were very happy to welcome at the meeting the General Secretary of PEO who addressed the meeting. The meeting was also attended by a representative of DEV-IŞ.

RESOLUTION

At the meeting organised by the Bicommunal Peace Initiative United Cyprus on Tuesday 26.1.2010 the following resolution was approved:
1.We call upon the Cypriot leaders of the two communities to proceed courageously,decisively and immediately to a compromise solution on the basis of the principles agreed. The only moral choice of our epoch for Cyprus today,the choice of hope for future generations is that of a mutually acceptable compromise,which is none other than the establishment of a Bi-zonal,Bi-communal federation based on political equality and a single sovereignty,international personality and citizenship. We therefore call upon the leaders to intensify their talks until they reach an agreement.
2.We are opposed to the logic of fragmentation,partition and ethnic/national hegemony which leads to hatred,division and racism.
3.We salute the proposed visit of the SG of the UN and welcome him to our divided country with the hope that his presence will enhance the momentum for immediate solution. We call upon the UN SG and the international community to support the current process of negotiations,which we believe will achieve their goal.
From our side,we declare our determination to continue our struggle for reunification,which is a struggle of all Cypriots:this country is ours and we will reunite it.

ΨΗΦΙΣΜΑ

Στη συνάντηση που οργανώθηκε από τη Δικοινοτική Πρωτοβουλία Ειρήνης Ενωμένης Κύπρου την Τρίτη 26.01.00 εγκρίθηκε το παρακάτω ψήφισμα:
1.Καλούμε τους Κυπρίους ηγέτες των δύο κοινοτήτων να προχωρήσουν θαρραλέα,άμεσα κι αποφασιστικά σε συμβιβαστική λύση στην βάση των ήδη συμφωνημένων αρχών. Η μόνη ηθική επιλογή της εποχής μας σήμερα,η επιλογή ελπίδας για τις μελλοντικές γενεές είναι ο αμοιβαία αποδεκτός συμβιβασμός που δεν είναι άλλος από την οικοδόμηση μιας διζωνικής,δικοινοτικής Ενωμένης Ομοσπονδιακής Κύπρου με μια διεθνή προσωπικότητα,μια ιθαγένεια και μια κυριαρχία,βασισμένη στην πολιτική ισότητα των δυο κοινοτήτων. Γι’ αυτό έκκληση μας είναι όπως οι δύο ηγέτες εντατικοποιήσουν τις συνομιλίες μέχρι την εξεύρεση λύσης.
2.Είμαστε αντίθετοι με τις λογικές του κατατεμαχισμού,της διχοτόμησης και του εθνοτικού ή εθνικού ηγεμονισμού και σοβινισμού που ωθεί προς το μίσος,τη διαίρεση και το ρατσισμό.
3.Χαιρετίζουμε την κάθοδο του ΓΓ του ΟΗΕ,τον οποίο και καλωσορίζουμε στην μοιρασμένη μας χώρα με την ελπίδα ότι η κάθοδος του θα επιταχύνει την δυναμική για άμεση λύση. Έκκληση μας στον ΓΓ και τη διεθνή κοινότητα να στηρίξουν τη διαδικασία των συνομιλιών,οι οποίες είμαστε σίγουροι ότι θα καρποφορήσουν.
Από την πλευρά μας εμείς δηλώνουμε αποφασιστικά παρόν στον αγώνα για την επανένωση που είναι υπόθεση όλων των κυπρίων:τούτη η χώρα είναι δική μας και θα την επανενώσουμε.

İki Toplumlu Birleşik Kıbrıs Barış İnisiyatifi’nin 26 Ocak 2010 Salı akşamı düzenlemiş olduğu toplantıda şu önerge üzerinde uzlaşmaya varılmıştır:
1.Kıbrıs’taki iki toplumun liderlerine cesaretli,kararlı ve seri bir şekilde ilerlemeleri ve üzerinde anlaşılmış prensipler çerçevesinde bir çözüme ulaşmaları için çağrıda bulunuruz. Bugün Kıbrıs için sözkonusu olabilecek tek ahlaki seçim,gelecek nesiller için umudu içeren tercih;karşılıklı uzlaşmaya,siyasal eşitliğe,tek egemenlik,vatandaşlık ve uluslararası temsiliyete dayalı iki- bölgeli,iki-toplumlu federasyondan başka birşey değildir. Bu yüzden liderlere bir çözüme ulaşmak üzere görüşmelerini yoğunlaştırmaları için çağrıda bulunuyoruz.

2.Nefret,ayrılıkçılık ve ırkçılığa yol açan etnik/milliyetçiliğin egemenliğine ve bölücülük mantığına karşıyız.

3.Birleşmiş Milletler Genel Sekreterinin tasarlanan ziyaretini selamlar,varlığının ivedi bir çözüm için gereken ivmeyi sağlaması umuduyla kendisini bölünmüş ülkemizde samimiyet ve nezaketle karşılarız.

4. Bizler,tüm Kıbrıslıların mücadelesi olan,yeniden birleşme yönündeki mücalemizi sürdüreceğimizi duyururuz. Bu ülke bizimdir ve biz onu yeniden birleştireceğiz.
